Poetry by Verna Zafra-Kasala

Wildflowers Wildflowers grow through the cracked mouth of the parking lot where I had my first kiss between the stones of my grandparents’ graves and up along the walls of my ribcage, all the small places where pain rests its feet waiting for me to finally find joy.

Verna Zafra-Kasala (she/her) was born in the Philippines but was raised and still lives in the Pacific island of Guåhan (Guam). Her work has appeared in The Tiger Moth Review, Hawai'i Review, and Minerva Rising, among others.
