Please do not submit your work as a PDF. Please send as either a Word .doc or Google .doc.

You can submit a packet of up to:
3 poems / short prose pieces 
(up to 1 page single-spaced or 2 pages double-spaced)
1 long prose piece
(up to 5 pages single-spaced)
3 art pieces
(photographs, digital art, etc)

Accepted work will be published online on the Marías at Sampaguitas website. Please only submit original work, unpublished elsewhere. Simultaneous submissions are accepted; however, please let us know if your piece is accepted elsewhere. Unfortunately, we are unable to pay contributors at this time.

Please label the subject line of your email: GENERAL SUBMISSION - TYPE OF SUBMISSION - NAME 

(EX: GENERAL SUBMISSION - POETRY - FIRST LAST.)

We do not condone plagiarism. If the work is an “after” or response piece, please make it clear in the body of the email.
Please allow 6-8 weeks for a response. 
 

Interview Requests  
Please send your email request to our EIC, Keana Aguila Labra at mariasatsampaguitas@gmail.com.
Keana uses they/she pronouns. If you wish to use a prefix, please use Mx. or Ms.
In the body, please introduce yourself and how an interview would benefit you. Please also describe your craft (e.g. fiction writer, poet, photographer, etc.) and provide either links to a portfolio/website or attached Word Docs/PDFs of your work.
Please include any social media handles within the short, third-person author bio.

Please send no more than one long piece or two short pieces. Please do not let word count exceed 1,500 words. Please submit the piece as a Word .doc or Google .doc with the name of the piece as the title of the .doc. Please state how many pieces are attached to the email in the body of the email. Please include a short, third-person bio and any social media handles you wish to provide.
 

Creative Non-Fiction /
Essays / Reviews

Please send no more than one long piece or two short pieces. Please do not let word count exceed 1,500 words. Please submit the essay/review as a Word .doc or Google .doc with the name of the review as the title of the .doc. Please include a short, third-person bio and any social media handles you wish to provide. (Reviews may be on the following: novel, poetry, chapbook, poem, short story, song, instrumental, band, singer/songwriter, movie, show, episode, etc. We are open to the possibilities.)
 

Photography/Mixed Media/Digital Art/Fashion
Please send no more than three art pieces at one time. Please include a warning in the body of the email if there is sensitive material in your photography. Please submit the photos as separate, named attachments, if the photos have titles. Please include a short, third-person bio and any social media handles you wish to provide. Please also include a blurb to accompany your work to provide context to the viewer.
