LOVESICK
you tell yourself that you are immune to
silver-tongued boys and their vanilla
prose, but you still read them like they
are poetry you have been fond of since
childhood.
they smile with diamond teeth — —
he is gorgeous but he will chew you
up and spit you out; cut your bones
so clean.
this body of yours refuses to let
this virus into your veins, but you
catch feelings like the common
cold before you can stop yourself
from falling —
— and oh, my darling, you vessel of love;
aphrodite could not resist adonis either so as
you helplessly try to pluck the cupid’s arrow
from your bleeding heart know that it is futile.
he imprisons your name between his
lips and you think kissing him is
the key that will set you free.
stomach twisted into knots tongue-tied and
frustration laced into your words: vanilla is
bittersweet and this taste is all too familiar; you
are a lovesick fool drinking defective cough
syrup.
— “lovesick”,
