Poetry by Christine Fojas

Dahlias: the Art of Withering

Worn petals

rumpled linen sheets

on my bed,

scattered with stamen

and carpel—

discarded garments

still wet with sex,

the pollen dust

of your perfume

spent on me.

Something blooms

under my rib cage

the way earth yields

the way a kiss

breaks ground.

Tongue curls

in the hollow

of my mouth

surrounded

by the taste of dew.

Will our love pale

in withering?

Or will it sublime?
