Poetry by Angela Weiser

Canopy Album

And for all of us there are trees.

Grammy’s liking for ginkgo. Mine too.

Showers of pouring neon fish.

How mum says shagbark hickory Is that

shagbark hickory? Seeks confirmation

(though dad, who’s fond of birch – me too –

does not know everything)

Beech and plane and tulip tree

Mum points out these and others,

joy of recognition.

I have lately searched for the word incandescent

though do not recall why.

Will she say oak or poplar?

What’s her favourite, his favourite?

Not for the life of me.
