Poem by Lisa Lerma Weber

Looking Back

The window to the past—

how long I waited to see you

on the other side, smiling at me

like you wanted to be invited in.

How long I envisioned you

dancing back into my life.

The window to the past—

shrouded by dark blue shadows.

All I see now is my reflection

looking back at me with solemn eyes.

The eyes that cried for memories

turned to ghosts—

how long they haunted the hollow spaces

of the heart you so easily abandoned.
