Poem by Christine Fojas

Shadow Play The child delights in the sweep of rain on her open face

as she floats paper boats on tiny rivers

down open sewers

to the land beneath the land.

The land

darkens with the death of day

as shadows play

upon its face, softens with grief

for the sake

of the child beneath the child.
