Poem by April Frances Federico

The Process of Loving Another Human

One,

Two

Months go

By and you

Think this could go all

The way into your twenty-years.

Three,

Four

Months go

By and love

Completely blinds you

Even when you’re separated.

Five,

Six

Months go

By that time

You’ve hit a milestone

And you want to have sex with him.

You

Are

Ever

So frantic

About everything

He does, says, texts, prays, thinks about you.

One

Year

Goes by

And then he

Says he can’t take it

Anymore. And then you are free.

Two

Years

Go by

And you still

Think about what you

Could’ve have done differently.
