A Lineage of Cardinal-Red Lips
I put on a bold, red lip
on a January, Sunday morning,
channeling my inner Marilyn Monroe,
feeling like I have the world at my fingertips—
when it’s actually wrapped around my index finger.
I choose not to let it go
because I come from a bold line of lips
who proclaim words like they have the same power as the Pope’s.
It’s because they do, despite what their Fathers told them.
