Poem by Adaeze I.

Trauma Queen

in her home, a certain kind of sadness lives;

the one that sets its roots into the rotting

wood floors, springing up and shattering

the glass windows, overflowing the pipes

until it’s leaky / until it bursts.

in this space, the pain cuts deep,

slicing the air / leaving behind staggered

breaths from the distress.

but even with all of this,

she has declared herself queen / as

someone who will not let herself be

ruled over by the past.
